The Art of Welcome – The First Moment
At Herberg Manor, the art of welcome begins before the first word. Long before check-in, there is a pause, a small space where we first meet one another.
I often notice it in the car park. The way a guest opens the door, stretches, looks around. That moment says more than any registration form. Some arrive curious, others tired, some guarded. In that unspoken reading of posture and energy, hospitality quietly begins.
I always send a message before arrival to say we are ready and looking forward to welcoming them. It sets the tone. By the time they arrive, there is already a trace of familiarity.
Then comes my favourite part, that first hello. “Welcome to your second home.” Simple words, but sincere ones. In that instant, I watch shoulders drop and smiles soften. You can almost see the journey leave them.
True welcome is not about efficiency or formality. It is about recognition, the guest seen and received. It is what turns a stay into belonging.
That first moment matters most because it carries everything that follows.
Personal quote:
"Welcome begins long before the words are spoken."
